Crystal Blue Silica Gel is a high-quality desiccant consisting of mostly amorphous silicon dioxide (SiO) and with cobalt(II) chloride included as an optional humidity indicator. It comes as hard, glass-like blue beads or crystal pieces that change color visibly to pink when it has been saturated by moisture, which makes monitoring faster and easier. Characterized by its high surface area and high porosity, Crystal Blue Silica Gel efficiently adsorbs water vapor from the ambient atmosphere and is suitable for moisture control across a broad spectrum of applications ranging from electronics and pharmaceuticals to food packaging and leather products. The product does not corrode and can be reused since regeneration by heat treatment is feasible. Nonetheless, because the cobalt(II) chloride is toxic, it is treated with caution and is slowly being replaced in various markets by non-toxic compounds like orange silica gel.
